The Games People Play

It is interesting to look back at the games that I used to play in my youth. I would play some board games, but I generally got bored with them in a short amount of time. I loved baseball, and still love the opportunity to go umpire a game when I can. Tip: Don't get in a shouting match with me; I have no problems throwing anyone out of the park. In my teenage years, I would go up to the church on Wednesday nights and play basketball (can't do that anymore).

So what is it I do these days to keep myself entertained. Well it stems back to my middle school years. My math teachers had all these puzzles in her classroom for us to figure out. Not the jigsaw puzzle, but a real puzzle where you actually had to think through the problem at hand. I figured all of them out in a short amount of time, and there's where I found one of my favorite hobbies, thinking/strategy games. Now, I haven't been able to get into the Computer/Video strategy games, which is weird, since I grew up on the computer world. I will admit, I grew tired of the games once I figured them out, so I had to move on to bigger and better. Now I tend to figure things out that impact others in a positive way. In this day and age, it definitely not the norm.

So how do I do it? Different project I work on at work or at church for one. If I can find something that will have a "global" impact that requires a lot of thought, I'm definitely going to volunteer. Then there's my "games" of anonymity. You know, the ones where I just do good things for others, and never put a name to it. Fortunately, or maybe fortunately, it has kind of expanded to just do everything behind a cloak. I find that it engages my mind to find better ways to just stay anonymous. Plus, there's always the fact that if people actually found it was me, would that be a let down to them? It's much better for them to think it's some knight in shining armor than to realize, oh it was just Merlin.

So, now that the secret is out, I've got to try much harder. For Camille's sake, yes, you have at least met me, and no, I am not using an alias -- that would be Uncle Scrooge.

So the next time something mysteriously shows up or something just happens, and you have no idea who instigated it, it may be me, then again maybe this post has inspired someone else to start playing the game.

It's not the credit that's important, it's the smiles that are generated that keeps me going.
